Discover The Macallan

The Six Pillars are the foundation stones that take you on the fascinating journey to the fame and character of The Macallan. They encompass the strong sense of place at the heart of the distillery and the estate, together with our long experience of distilling and maturing a single malt whisky.

Built in 1700, our Spiritual Home, Easter Elchies House, lies at the heart of The Macallan.

Curiously Small Stills provide the inherent rich flavours and we take the Finest Cut to ensure we create the best single malt whisky.

Our Exceptional Oak Casks are the greatest contributor to the distinctive style of The Macallan, and all of our whiskies display Natural Colour.

From place and production, to people and passion. The Macallan is the result of such defining mastery and intricacy, it is unmatched; peerless in each and every way

The Wood Story

Our exceptional oak casks are the key to the outstanding quality, natural colour and distinctive aromas and flavours of The Macallan.

These bespoke casks account for up to 80% of The Macallan’s signature whisky colours, character and flavours and because of this, we spend more per cask than any other distillery in sourcing, crafting, seasoning and caring for our casks.

Wood is a natural product and so each tree is different, imparting different flavours and colours to the whisky. We treat wood management like an art form in itself and the artistry of our Whisky Maker ensures natural colour is as consistent as possible.

The Macallan People

Our dedicated team at the distillery and across the globe are central to the creation of The Macallan works of art.

Master Whisky Maker, Bob Dalgarno is at the helm of the consistent character and quality of all of The Macallan’s expressions.

The Master of Wood, Stuart MacPherson is at the pinnacle of his craft as the primary source of information on The Macallan’s oak casks and their influence on the whiskies.

Head of Education, Sietse Offringa leads The Macallan’s education programme, sharing the brand story with novices, enthusiasts, connoisseurs and customers internationally.

The Art of the Serve

When the perfect whisky meets the perfect serve, an incredible and memorable Macallan moment is created.

Bring The Macallan flavours to life. Experience it straight with nothing added, with a splash of water to release the flavours, with ice, or as the hero in a mixed serve or cocktail.

Inspired by Japanese cocktail culture, where bartenders hand-carve ice balls to create sculpted spheres that melt slowly, The Macallan Ice Ball brings together magic, theatre and artistry to deliver the perfect serve.
